Cars

Image
I really loved rewatching the movie  Cars  (2006), directed by John Lasseter. Even though I have watched this movie many times, I didn't really notice all of the little things and themes tied in with the movie until I last watched it. Even though Cars  is a lighthearted, fun movie about an egotistical race car, it has a lot of meaning. During the first half of the movie, Lightning Mcqueen only cared about himself, Dinoco and winning. When Lightning McQueen first came back to meet with the Rusteeze Company, he was dreading it because they are "dirty" and "unlike him." He hated talking with them because of how different he thought they were from him, even though they were the ones that gave him his big break. Then, when he got stuck in Radiator Springs, he would do anything to escape in order for him to get to his race in California early so he could talk with Dinoco, a big name racing brand. He referred to Radiator Springs as "Hillbilly Hell" and a ...

Moonlight

Image
Overall, I think  Moonlight  (2016), directed by Barry Jenkins, was a pretty interesting film. One thing that I enjoyed about it was the fact that it was structured like chapters/parts that were named after the names Chiron was going by during that particular phase of his life. These chapter structures made it appear as though these certain phases of his life were significant to Chiron's identity and basically made him who he was in those phases. In my opinion, this film was about exploring identity, figuring out your true self, and how actions can contribute into shaping your identity. I believe that the chapter structure helped support that theme.      In this film, I believe that Chiron was greatly influenced on the people around him. In the first act, Chiron is going by Little, a nickname that was given to him by boys who bully him. Chiron appears to be a shy, timid and always kept to himself. He is confused on why the boys...

Jaws

Image
Overall, I felt that I did enjoy the film  Jaws  (1975) by Steven Spielberg. I really liked the director's choices, camera angles, symbolism of the colors and overall suspenseful feeling the movie gave. My favorite scene from the film was the very first scene. This scene begins showing many teenagers and young adults having fun at a party on the beach. Then it cuts to a drunk man and woman sneaking away from the party to go skinny dipping in the water. While the man is too drunk to walk into the water and even know what is going on, the woman immediately goes into the water and takes off her clothes. The audience begins to hear the music gradually get louder and the camera starts shooting from underneath the girl which slowly gets closer to her. Then, we see the woman suddenly get violently thrown around in the water and then vanish from the surface. Even though we never see the shark until later in the film, we still use our imagination and critical thinki...

Swiss Army Man

Image
I think that Swiss Army Man (2016) by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Schienert, was an overall very interesting movie. When I was watching it for the very first time, I was very confused on what was happening. However, as I am now trying to figure out the theme of this film and what this film was all about, I am starting to understand and even like Swiss Army Man . I believe that this film is all about how people live their life because of love. Being loved and cared for makes us feel more alive and human. The film also portrays that being ourselves and showing our quirks makes us more human. We should accept our flaws and quirks because they are what make us unique and human.           In the beginning of the film, we see Hank on a beach trying to hang himself with a rope. He appears very dirty, ragged and upset. This suggests that Hank has been through a lot and is very depressed. Suddenly, he sees a dead person laying on the sand in fr...

Rear Window

Image
Overall, I really enjoyed watching Rear Window. I really liked the plot turns and action scenes that were in this film. One character that I really liked was Lisa Fremont. To contrary belief, Lisa seemed to be a feminist in my perspective. For example, she is independent, fearless, and successful on her own. Many would argue that she was, like many other women the film portrays, attention-seeking and rather clingy towards Jefferies. However, I would disagree. I believe that Lisa was in fact not attention-seeking nor clingy. I believe that she was just a woman who was in love with her significant other. When we are in love, we desire to show affection and care to them, and to spend as much time with that person as possible. We are also willing to make sacrifices and take risks. For example, when Lisa willingly broke into Lars apartment in order to discover more evidence and help Jefferies, she showed how fearless she was and how willing she was to change her lifestyle if it meant she ge...

Marie Antoinette

Image
Overall, I really enjoyed watching Marie Antoinette.  I thought it was interesting how Coppola blended comedy into a rather historic film. A scene in particular that I really liked was the extreme close up shot Marie crying when she found out King Louis's sister had a baby before her. During the majority of the film, Marie Antoinette was constantly having people in her ear about having a baby and fulfilling the Austrian-Franco alliance. Everyone like her mom, her brother, the French King, and all of France were applying immense pressure on her. Marie Antoinette always felt this heavy weight on her shoulders and embarrassed of her rather "crumbling" marriage. When she found out that King Louis's sister had a baby before her, Marie felt incredibly embarrassed and upset and ran to her room to cry alone.       In this scene, the camera filmed Marie crying in a close up shot. This really captured Marie's pain and sorrow and conveyed those emo...

Get Out

Image
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rtzsZSaCIM  Overall, I really enjoyed Get Out . I really liked the big plot twist and all of the suspense-filled scenes. My favorite scene in particular was the one when Rod was calling Rose about Chris. This scene was the first time the audience sees how much of a master manipulator Rose is firsthand. The scene starts off filming Rod. However, we can still hear Rose's concerned-sounding voice. Then, the scene cuts to filming Rose in a dark room with one light illuminating half of her face, adding to the suspense. Rose, instead of looking concerned to match the sound of her voice, looks completely stone face, serious and emoting zero emotion. I think that the actress playing Rose did an incredible job acting in this scene because I believe it would be really hard to sound concerned without showing any emotion. I think that the camera work also helped the audience feel the actors emotions. For example, when the camera was filming Rod, it was moving w...
